(Montrose, CO, May 8, 2019) – Construction at the triplex on Park Avenue in Montrose will commence again in early June for Habitat for Humanity of the San Juans. Previous construction activities came to a halt in late 2018 when the federal government’s impending shutdown delayed funding that was slated to complete the last third of the triplex. With funding once again in place, Habitat expects to complete construction later this fall.
“We know that the partner families who have been chosen for these homes are anxiously waiting to move in,” stated Erica Weeks, the organization’s new executive director. “Now that funding is secured, we will begin to work closely with the partner families, the construction team and community to ensure a smooth completion.”
The triplex is a new construction design that Habitat for Humanity of the San Juans piloted under the direction of Colleen Aller, the organization’s previous executive director. The building allows for greater density in downtown Montrose, a function that increases the inventory of quality homes available within the community, given the fixed amount of land available. Construction originally began in September 2017.
“Habitat exists to create affordable and safe homes for families in need and we accomplish this by partnering with individuals and businesses in each community we serve to fund construction,” stated Habitat’s board president, John Eloe. “We are thrilled to complete the triplex and are asking for the community’s ongoing support through volunteering or donations for future homes.”
Habitat for Humanity of the San Juans is a non-profit Christian based organization that builds homes with lower income families. The homes are built by volunteers and partner families from the community and sold at no profit – no interest to partner families in need. The mortgage payments made by homeowners are used to build more homes, in addition to donations and sponsorships by private individuals and businesses.
